Connecticut Confirms First COVID Case With Omicron Variant: Officials


The case concerns a man in his sixties from Hartford County who developed mild symptoms on November 27.

HARTFORD, Connecticut – Governor Ned Lamont announced on Saturday evening that the first confirmed case of the omicron variant of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the state.

The State Department of Public Health laboratory confirmed the presence of the variant using sequencing.

The case concerns a man in his sixties from Hartford County who developed mild symptoms on November 27. A home COVID-19 test came back positive on November 29, as did a molecular test on December 1.

A family member visited Anime NYC 2021 between November 17 and 22 and ended up developing mild symptoms on November 21, officials said. They tested positive in a home COVID-19 test that was carried out on November 23.

The man in his 60s and his family member have both been fully immunized, officials said.

COVID testing on the rest of the family is pending, officials said.

“As I have been saying for several days, given the speed at which this new variant has spread around the world and its positive identification in several states, we assumed that it was already in our state and the information we have. received from the laboratory today confirms this fact ”, said Governor Lamont. “This is probably not the only case of the variant in the state. It comes as Massachusetts detected its first confirmed case of the omicron variant COVID earlier on Saturday.

New York has detected several cases of omicron since December 2.
