Facebook has expanded its relationship with the NBA with a new deal that brings game highlights to Facebook Watch.
In its bid to bring more sports content to Watch, Facebook has reached an agreement with the NBA to broadcast highlights of all NBA games, including the WNBA, G League and NBA 2K League, in collaboration with Turner Sports. As part of the expanded deal, Facebook Watch will also stream pre-season, post-season and Summer League games.
For many, that might not seem like a big deal since highlights are already streaming in various places, but Facebook is bringing a huge audience into the mix. Facebook is also looking to offer weekly and monthly NBA Watch Parties — broadcasts featuring highlights from the WNBA, G League, and 2K League — that allow fans to watch and interact with live highlights.
“We are thrilled to provide our millions of Facebook followers with game-by-game recaps,” said Sam Farber, NBA vice president, digital media.
Devi Mahadevia, Head of Sports Programming for Facebook in North America, said, “The NBA has one of the most vibrant sports communities on our platform. By delivering these match recaps and hosting a weekly Watch Party, the league will be able to engage with fans around the world in new and exciting ways.
The first NBA game was streamed live on Facebook in 2017, and Facebook is slowly trying to bring more Association content to its platform.
