Fiba to stream games live on Twitch as part of larger content deal

  • Fiba to stream 600 hours of live basketball per year on Twitch, including all Fiba 3 × 3 competitions and EuroLeague Women
  • The federation will establish a global network of Twitch creators, who will broadcast games live and produce their own programming and formats

The International Basketball Federation (Fiba) will live stream approximately 600 hours of live games per year on Twitch as part of a larger partnership with the Amazon-owned streaming service.

The tournaments that will be broadcast include all Fiba 3 × 3 competitions, EuroLeague Women and some junior events. Additionally, highlights and delayed coverage from Fiba’s national team and other club competitions will be packaged and distributed only to the creators of Twitch.

Starting this spring, the multi-year agreement will also see the global governing body release “other unique programming formats” that it says are tailored to take advantage of Twitch’s interactive tools and features.

As part of the deal, Fiba will grant the creators of Twitch access to official footage so fans can produce basketball-related content on their own channels. The organization plans to establish a global network of creators in each of its major markets – including the United States, France, Italy, Spain and Australia – who will co-stream games live and will create their own programming and formats to share with their subscribers.

The deal is the first between Twitch and an international federation, although the platform already broadcasts basketball live through its partnerships with USA Basketball and the National Basketball Association (NBA) G League development competition.

“Fiba is an innovation-driven organization and is passionate about bringing fans together in new interactive ways around live streaming,” said Damian Burns, Twitch senior vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

“This makes Fiba the perfect fit for Twitch. We’re excited to see Fiba reaching new and existing audiences across the world with truly innovative content that makes the most of the tools and resources Twitch has to offer.
