Besides helping you listen to music or make a phone call, Alexa is able to play your favorite podcast from your favorite provider.

Podcasts are a great way to listen to topics that are important to you. Amazon recognizes this by allowing Alexa to connect your Echo to podcast services from Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pandora, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Tidal and TuneIn.

The process of setting up your podcasts is simple and painless. Let’s get your Echo ready to stream your favorite podcast content.

Connect your podcast services to your Echo via Alexa

The first thing you’re going to need to do is link your podcast service(s) to your Echo. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app and select After

  2. Click or tap SettingsAmazon Link Podcast

  3. Select Music and podcastsAmazon Link Podcast

  4. Click or tap Associate a new serviceAmazon Link Podcast

  5. Select your podcast service of choiceAmazon Link Podcast

  6. Click on Activate to useAmazon Link Podcast

  7. Log in to your account and grant the appropriate permissions

Now all you have to do is say something like “Alexa is playing (podcast name) on (podcast service)”. If you were looking for the Huberman Laboratory on Spotify, you would say, “Alexa, play Huberman Laboratory on Spotify.

How to listen to podcasts on Amazon Echo – set a default provider

What if you have multiple linked services and don’t feel like specifying the service each time you want to listen to podcasts on Amazon Echo?

A quick settings change will set your podcast service to default, allowing you to forgo mentioning the service by name.

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app and select After

Now, when you want to play a podcast, you just need to specify the name of the podcast and it will default to the selected service.

Continuing with the previous example, you would now say “Alexa, play Huberman Laboratory.” This time it will play from your selected default podcast service.

Control your podcasts from your Echo device

Alexa makes it easy to control your podcasts. Some examples are:

  • “Alexa, play Huberman Laboratory.”
  • “Alexa, stop Huberman Laboratory.”
  • “Alexa, play Huberman Laboratory.” – This will resume the paused podcast
  • “Alexa, stop Huberman Laboratory in five minutes.”
  • “Alexa, play the next (or previous) episode.”
  • “Alexa, fast forward (or rewind) two minutes.”
  • “Alexa, increase (or decrease) the volume by 10%.”
  • “Alexa, stop Huberman Laboratory in three minutes.

Amazon makes talking to your Echo an intuitive and easy way to control your favorite content.

Now that Alexa is linked to your favorite podcast service, you can easily control your Echo to play what you want, when you want.
