Amazon Alexa is your digital assistant, capable of making your day a little easier by responding to your voice.
Besides helping you listen to music or make a phone call, Alexa is able to play your favorite podcast from your favorite provider.
Podcasts are a great way to listen to topics that are important to you. Amazon recognizes this by allowing Alexa to connect your Echo to podcast services from Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pandora, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Tidal and TuneIn.
The process of setting up your podcasts is simple and painless. Let’s get your Echo ready to stream your favorite podcast content.
Connect your podcast services to your Echo via Alexa
The first thing you’re going to need to do is link your podcast service(s) to your Echo. Here’s how:
Open the Amazon Alexa app and select After
Click or tap Settings
Select Music and podcasts
Click or tap Associate a new service
Select your podcast service of choice
Click on Activate to use
Log in to your account and grant the appropriate permissions
Now all you have to do is say something like “Alexa is playing (podcast name) on (podcast service)”. If you were looking for the Huberman Laboratory on Spotify, you would say, “Alexa, play Huberman Laboratory on Spotify.
How to listen to podcasts on Amazon Echo – set a default provider
What if you have multiple linked services and don’t feel like specifying the service each time you want to listen to podcasts on Amazon Echo?
A quick settings change will set your podcast service to default, allowing you to forgo mentioning the service by name.
- Open the Amazon Alexa app and select After
- Click or tap Settings
- Select Music and podcasts
- Click on Default Services top of the list
- Select the default app in the podcast section and choose your service
Now, when you want to play a podcast, you just need to specify the name of the podcast and it will default to the selected service.
Continuing with the previous example, you would now say “Alexa, play Huberman Laboratory.” This time it will play from your selected default podcast service.

Alexa makes it easy to control your podcasts. Some examples are:
