If you live in the same market as your favorite team

The NBA season is finally here – and over the past 12 months, it’s gotten even easier to watch your favorite basketball team even if you’ve cut the cord.

There are six major streaming providers that offer live TV streaming. These allow you to watch live games with iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Chromecast and Web.

It’s the best option for fans who want to watch local games in the Marketplace, as well as nationally televised games on ABC, ESPN, TNT, and NBA TV.

Starting at ~$25 per month, it’s an inexpensive way to stream your team’s games without having to sign up for a cable subscription. When the season is over, you can cancel your subscription and save money during the offseason.

Our choice

PlayStationVue

You’ll get ABC, ESPN, TNT, NBA TV and local coverage of your favorite team.

National broadcasts

ABC, ESPN and TNT

Most services include ABC, ESPN and TNT in their basic package.

ESPN and ABC will offer 102 live regular season games, in addition to 44 NBA playoffs, including the NBA Finals.

ESPN will air 83 of those games, the remaining 19 ABC – mostly Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons starting in January.

TNT will feature 67 regular season games, including a double-header on opening night. The program will include 12 appearances for the Los Angeles Lakers of Lebron James and Anthony Davis and the Golden State Warriors of Steph Curry. The LA Clippers will be separated for 11 matchups with NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

In addition to regular season games, TNT will host the NBA All-Star Game and more than 40 NBA playoff games, including the entire NBA Western Conference Finals.

You will be able to either stream these games with your streaming service or by authenticating with your credentials in the Watch TNT or Watch ESPN app.

NBA Television

NBA TV will air approximately 107 non-exclusive TV shows this season. They will also broadcast the Spurs-Suns NBA Mexico City game.

For general basketball fans, this is a good option to see teams playing outside of your home market.

You won’t be able to watch your local team though, as matches from teams in your local market will be hidden if the match is also shown on your local RSN.

At $55 per month, PlayStation Vue is the most comprehensive package for sports fans who also want NBA TV. AT&T TV NOW and Hulu Live TV do not offer NBA TV.

Regional broadcasts

Regional sports networks

If you live in the same market as your favorite team, most games will be shown on a local regional sports network. You can stream 26 out of 30 NBA teams locally on live TV streaming services.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to stream games from the Denver Nuggets (Altitude), Houston Rockets (AT&T SportsNet Southwest), Los Angeles Lakers (Spectrum SportsNet), or Utah Jazz (AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain) in your local market.

Sling TV no longer offers RSN Fox Sports or NBC Sports Chicago, which means that Blue Sling ($25) is only a good option for in-market telecasts of the Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, and Washington Wizards.

For New York Knicks fans, only fuboTV ($55) and DIRECTV NOW ($85) offer MSG/MSG+ for coverage in the New York area.

In Canada, we suggest checking Sportsnet NOW for more than 100 NBA games, including 42 Toronto Raptors games this season.

Since not every service carries every RSN, the handy chart below shows which teams are available on each service. Click on the team name to see the full schedule and matches you can watch with each provider.

Overflow channels

Some games that appear on overflow channels may require you to watch on Fox Sports Go or the NBCSports app.

If you live in a different market as your favorite team

NBA League Pass

If you live far from your favorite team, you can still watch almost every game. The NBA offers its off-market package, NBA League Passfor $200 to watch each team, NBA Team Pass for $120 for a single team or $6.99 for a single game.

Just like last season, you’ll be able to select home or away shows, watch multiple games at once, and watch some games in VR.

Fans can upgrade to NBA League Pass Premium which replaces ads with an in-arena stream for $50 per season. For the first time, NBA League Pass also includes the ability to add NBA TV to your subscription for an additional $60 per season or $7 per month. Otherwise, unfortunately, all games on NBA TV, in addition to TNT, ESPN, ABC and local TV shows will be blocked. You will need a live TV streaming service for this.

Continuing from last season, fans can purchase off-market shows at the end of the first quarter ($4.99), first half ($2.99) and third quarter ($1.99). They also offer a 10-Minute Pass, which lets you stream 10 minutes of any out-of-market game for just $0.99.

NBA League Pass added a new streaming option midway through last season through Amazon Prime Video Channels. This joined fuboTV, YouTube TV and Sling TV as additional ways to subscribe to League Pass. The advantage is that you will be able to watch the games in your familiar streaming interface.
