Inter Miami became the first Major League Soccer (MLS) club to deploy its own streaming platform to stream locally broadcast matches for free.
Built in conjunction with Texas-based software solutions company PumpJack Dataworks, the over-the-top (OTT) service was agreed as part of Inter Miami’s multi-year local broadcast deal signed with CBS Miami in April.
As part of the arrangement, regional live broadcasts of club games will be made available on the platform to fans residing within a 100 mile radius of the South Florida city. Inter Miami’s CBS deal also includes some prime-time regular-season games showing on MyTV33.
For fans based outside the Zone, an alternate feed is available from inside the Commentator’s Booth. Users from 30 different countries downloaded the app to broadcast Inter Miami’s 3-2 home win over Orlando City on August 22.
Inter Miami vice president of digital Jean Manuel Jimenez said PumpJack has become a “key partner in executing our strategy … on building a database to maximize revenue.”
Inter Miami’s home games are being played behind closed doors at their temporary Fort Lauderdale home as the club scramble to bring back spectators.
Their next game is an away game against Nashville on August 31, after they postponed their home game against Atlanta United on August 26 amid widespread protests over the recent police shootout against Jacob Blake, a black man from Wisconsin. .
PumpJack, which has also entered into deals with other US major league franchises including the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA), recently signed partnerships with Formula 1 team Williams Racing, as well as with Welsh Rugby Club Pro 14 Ospreys.
