In Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, the best figure skaters competed, while in Montreal, Canada, the best short track speed skaters raced to the finish line. That competition kicked off Friday with qualifiers, championships and several other events for the world’s best male and female speed skaters at the International Skating Union World Short Track Championships. Canada hosted two events this weekend and both end here today. On deck in Montreal, six quarter-finals, eight semi-finals and eight finals between male and female competitors here today.

This weekend featured short track speed skating for both men and women in several different distances and disciplines. There are distances as short as 100 meters up to 5000 meters in relay competitions. The best individual and team speed skaters in the world represent their country in this event to have an impact on the future Winter Olympics.

Today will start with a handful of quarter-finals, which will lead to semi-finals for individual riders and teams.

In the final events of the day, the men’s and women’s 1,000 meter relays will set up the final two events of the weekend, the women’s 3,000 meter relay and the men’s 5,000 meter relay to round out an exciting weekend of action for the ISU before moving on to the next competition.
