June 28, 2022 – Olympic skateboarding qualifications for Paris 2024 kick off this week at the 2022 WS Street Skateboarding Championships in Rome, Italy (June 28-July 3), and will be streamed live on Olympics.com. The semi-finals and finals will be available on July 2 and 3.
After the beginnings of skateboarding in Tokyo 2020which captured worldwide attention with its fierce competition coupled with a true display of friendship, solidarity and respect, the skate park and street will return for Paris 2024.
With just over two years to go, the journey to Paris 2024 begins in Rome for street skateboarding Olympians and Aspiring Olympians, as they will have the first opportunity to begin their qualifying campaign for the 2022 WS Street Skateboarding Championships.
With the competition taking place from June 28 to July 3, athletes will battle it out for the World Championship titles, while vying to secure their place at the Olympic Games, by racking up qualifying points. This includes Tokyo 2020 medalists Funa Nakayama (JPN), Jagger Eaton (USA), Kelvin Hoefler (BRA), Momiji Nishiya (JPN), Rayssa Leal (BRA) and Yuto Horigome (JPN).
The event is part of the Olympic qualifying season, made up of more than 3,000 competitions in individual sports that also give athletes the chance to win their place in the Olympic Games. For the first time in history, many of these events are identifiable by the Paris 2024 Qualifier label, introduced during the Street Skateboarding Championships.
With the recently announced festival-style multidisciplinary program Olympic Qualification Series Since the launch of the IOC in 2024, where Skateboarding Qualifiers will culminate, Olympic Qualifiers have been driven by the ambition to support, celebrate and uplift athletes on their road to the Olympic Games, as outlined in Olympic Agenda 2020+5 .
The 2022 WS Street Skateboarding Championships Semi-Finals and Finals will be streamed live on Olympics.com Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3.
