CLERMONT, Florida – At COVID testing sites in central Florida, long lines have frustrated many people looking for free COVID tests.
However, many people don’t realize that COVID testing is covered by insurance, and it can mean the difference between hours or minutes of waiting.

Nathan Hawkins of the Physicians Stat Lab in Clermont said many private labs like his had performed COVID testing during the pandemic.
“We take all the insurance, so your insurance will pay if you have insurance. If you don’t, the government will subsidize us so that you can do your COVID test, ”he said.

Hawkins said his lab had seen a dramatic increase in demand recently and saw many positive tests, around 38% last week.
“They tell us how very hard it is to spend so much time and not be able to pass a test,” Hawkins said.

He said if omicron cases continue to increase, anxiety will also increase; and more testing possibilities should alleviate some of these concerns.
