Defending champion Daniil Medvedev and Nick Kyrgios will face off for the third time this year in the fourth round of the US Open on Sunday.
Medvedev is looking to defend his title at the US Open and he’s been looking very motivated all week. The Russian has annihilated all his opponents so far, knocking out Stefan Kozlov, Arthur Rinderknech and Wu Yibing in straight sets.
The world number one has had a decent season so far but hasn’t been able to replicate his incredible performances from 2021. Earlier this year, Medvedev reached the final of the Australian Open, the semi-finals of the Mexican Open and the quarter-finals of the Australian Open. Miami Open.
After being sidelined with a hernia for nearly two months, Medvedev returned to action and reached back-to-back finals in Libema and Halle.
More recently, the Russian managed to win the Los Cabos Open before losing to Kyrgios in the first round in Montreal and in the fourth round to Stefanos Tsitsipas in Cincinnati.
Meanwhile, Kyrgios has been in excellent form recently, having won 17 of his last 20 matches on grass and hard courts. During that impressive run, he finished second to Djokovic at Wimbledon before lifting the trophy in Washington.
The Australian also made a quarter-final appearance in Montreal where he lost in straight sets to Hubert Hurkacz.
Head-to-head Nick Kyrgios leads the way against Medvedev as the Australian has won three of four encounters with the Russian.
