Alcaraz did it again with a five-set marathon semi-final win over Frances Tiafoe to advance to her first Grand Final and a world-ranked opportunity.
In total this season, Alcaraz has 44 wins and four tournament wins, making it their first Grand Final on Sunday. He has lost in the third round, quarter-finals and fourth round of the previous three Grand Slam tournaments on the calendar.
This season for Ruud he has 38 wins, three tournament wins and one appearance in a major final, losing to Nadal in straight sets at Roland Garros.
These two have only faced each other twice in their careers, in the Miami Open final and Anytech365 Andalucia quarter-finals, where Alcaraz won both sets in a row.
What this match could ultimately come down to is Alcaraz’s legs and stamina as he’s just won three straight matches that went down to the fifth and final set, four tiebreakers and just about as much emotion as possible outside of a final match.
