The 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship kicks off today in Denmark with 10 teams split into two groups. Canada and Finland play out of Group A with the United States, Switzerland and Japan this year. Group B includes Czechia, Germany, Hungary, Sweden and host country Denmark. The top four teams from last year are all in Group A, making it the most competitive and toughest group overall as Canada look to win gold again and the United States United, Finland and Switzerland are looking to finish higher on the podium in what will be an exciting tournament.

At last year’s tournament, Canada opened group play with a 5-3 win over Finland while playing in their home country. It was a thrilling game as Finland opened with a 2-0 first period lead, started the final period tied 2-2 and then saw Canada explode to a 3-1 final period for the win. .
Canada finished 4-0 with 20 goals scored, just five allowed for a tournament-leading plus-15 goal differential.
Finland lost to Canada in group play but went on to finish 2-2 with 13 goals scored and eight allowed for a plus-five goal differential. After losing their first two games, Finland finished with two wins to qualify for the playoffs and the bronze medal for third place at the end.
