City scored all three points on Wednesday night against Aston Villa, leading 2-0 before half-time thanks to a brilliant strike from Ruben Dias from outside the box and a brilliant counterattack that ended with a volley from Bernardo Silva.
Villa fought back just after the break, however, and created problems for Pep Guardiola’s side. Nonetheless, the reigning champions showed their courage and held on for a 2-1 victory.
Manchester City are now heading to Vicarage Road with an almost healthy squad. The Premier League champions had to come forward with a severely exhausted side in Birmingham with just 15 first-team players in the squad of the day which included three goalkeepers.
Fortunately, Pep Guardiola has now received a major boost after surviving a ‘emergency situation‘last week, with a large group of key players returning to prepare for the game against Ranieri’s side.
Meanwhile, Watford is currently struggling at the bottom of the Premier League ladder, sitting 17e with four wins, one draw and nine losses so far. Newly appointed manager Claudio Ranieri has managed to produce a decent performance for his team after being appointed two months ago, but the results have not been so positive.
Under Ranieri’s new leadership, the club have only managed to win two out of seven games, but a substantial performance improvement can be seen in their landslide wins against Everton and Manchester United.
