Who Needs a $90 Stream Deck Pedal When a Keyboard and Wood Block Will Do

In case you missed last week’s news, Elgato has released a floor pedal aimed at streamers. The company is known for developing technology with content creators in mind, and this time it’s adding a pedal to its roster that can be programmed to perform just about any function. From using it to change scenes to using it to peek around corners, the Stream Deck Pedal will come in handy for all sorts of activities. But do you know what could be better than Elgato’s product? An old keyboard.

A TikTok creator, Boneyttv, showed off his tried-and-true setup and told his audience that they don’t need a Stream Deck pedal at all. All they need is an old Dell keyboard, a plank of wood, polystyrene and a dream. What an innovator.

Hilariously, this video jokes that Elgato’s new product is just an expensive floor keyboard that, admittedly, anyone can make themselves. As long as you have an old keyboard with three working keys, you could theoretically put it on the floor under your feet and put whatever use you wanted to it. For Boneyttv, it’s crouching, push-to-talk, and in-game voice chat. And it seems to work for him, so I really can’t fault his idea.

The floor keyboard may not be as shiny or polished as Elgato’s newest product, but I can confidently say that it works, is less expensive, and has a certain charm a wooden pedal that I like. Boney presented his case well — I applaud him. And I’m not the only one because this video on TikTok has well over 500,000 likes. It is a popular keyboard.

Boney is making a name for himself showing off his janky yet functional setup. The creator was in our news just last week after showing off his mouse which he cut in half with a handsaw because, and I quote, “I don’t need a fucking return”. Fair enough.
