Yahoo has given its sports application a refresh with a focus on live streaming. In conjunction with Major League Baseball, Yahoo Sports will now list games streamed live online. With one click, you can watch it through the Yahoo app or another third-party provider like FOX Sports GO.
Available on iOS and Android, Yahoo Sports has gone beyond stats, box scores and headlines. When using the app, a “watch” button will appear next to scheduled baseball games that are broadcast live. A tap will take you into that game’s details, including streaming options. Due to its partnership with MLB, some games will be streamed live directly on Yahoo Sports, such as the company’s “MLB Free Game of the Day.”
Only games that are available to you will be shown, as Yahoo said it handles “complex rights and blackout restrictions”. This ability is currently limited to baseball, but it’s not a stretch to think the company would try to negotiate a deal in the future with the National Basketball Association (NBA), National Hockey League (NHL), or National Football. League (NFL). ), an organization that previously worked with Yahoo and hasn’t shied away from streaming online.
Videos are obviously a big part of Yahoo’s strategy, with CEO Marissa Mayer’s “Mavens” focus. The live streaming guide matches the company’s story as a directory, as the app guides people to the information they want. It’s similar to Yahoo’s Video Guide app, which launched in December as a tv guide for video streaming services.
